Living By Faith – Launching Scars.Church

I was raised by parents that taught me firsthand how to live by faith and put it into action. Originally from Huntington, but had been in California and Oklahoma, my parents returned to Huntington in 1979 to begin a new work of ministry. They started a new chapter of Youth for Christ and for nearly 20 years, saw teenagers respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. My wife and I were born and raised here too. After living in various places, we returned to Huntington as well.

As my wife’s heart turned to nursing and meeting the needs of people in that way, my desire turned back into reaching the hurt and broken for Jesus. I had been traveling the country singing, leading worship, and recording. Soon after, I began working as the Worship and Youth Pastor for a church in the same community I was raised , eventually morphing the position into the Associate Pastor role. I served there faithfully for more than seven years.

Wow! We saw God do amazing things as he grew the ministries and church. But…

Something began to shift inside. I didn’t like the shift. It was uncomfortable and at first, I wanted nothing to do with it.

And so, the four year battle began.

Maybe it wasn’t a battle. Maybe it was more of a preparation, but God began to plant ideas and visions into my life and it was outrageously different than my own plans. Yep, He does that!

Since last May our family has gone through many hurts, frustrations, tears, betrayal from those who were supposed to be protective, and nights of sleeplessness to the point of losing our minds. Personally, I thought I was dealing with it perfectly. I wasn’t.

It was time to finally step out in faith just like my own parents did. It was time to step out in faith to the pressing on my heart. I know that God never left us and even now, he’s with us in our current circumstances.

Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God is with us wherever we go.

God is with us wherever.

Wherever.

Now What?

We have been stepping forward in faith to launch Scars.Church. This is an organic church launch. We do not have a denomination with thousands upon thousands of dollars backing us. I have taken a job outside of the church to bring in an income as we launch. We are letting God take the lead and provide. We are launching organically with no building to own, no office except mine at home or a local coffee shop or restaurant, but we do have faith to see the city of Huntington and the Tri-State completely overtaken by the life-changing message and person of Jesus! We are trusting for the Holy Spirit to give us personal encounters with people to share this same message.

What We Need

1. Prayer. Please prayer for us as we continue to meet new people, start conversations, and share Jesus. Please pray that God would supply all of our needs according to his riches in glory. (Philippians 4:19)

2. Partnership. Please consider partnering with us in multiple ways. If you already have a home church, that’s awesome! If you don’t, we would love for you to join us as we launch and reach the city. You can personally reach me at nick@scars.church and I will answer any questions.

3. Support. Will you consider supporting us with your time, talent, and tithe? If you are at a church we are not asking you to stop giving there. If you are at a church, would your church consider adding us to your missions budget or a simple donation monthly to partner together?

4. Workers. Luke 10:2 says, ” These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” Is God calling you to help launch Scars and work with us to reach the city and it’s communities? We need musicians, children’s workers, workers in hospitality/greeting, tech, etc…everything. Are you ready to work for the sake of the call of Jesus? Send me an email at nick@scars.church and let’s talk!

This is not new. I have been wrestling with this for years. I waited on The Lord. The time is now!

I could go on and on about all that God is doing, but I’ll save it for our next Scars.Church Informational Meeting on May 21 @ 7 p.m. at the Hampton Inn Kinetic Park (off Hal Greer Blvd.). There are more posts to come.
