There Is No Competition. One Body, Many Parts.

There is no competition. What? Our minds can’t comprehend that statement. Of course I’m talking about the church. Today we are raised and groomed to outperform each other in everything. It’s second nature to the way we live. This may be okay in sports, but not the church.

It’s true that every church is different. We have different styles of worship, preaching, studies, small groups, etc. But if we are preaching Jesus and his death, burial, and resurrection, shouldn’t we want every Gospel-centered church to succeed? Shouldn’t we want every new work and expression of Christ to succeed?

From what I have seen, if you are launching a new work in a city of established churches, many become territorial. So, here’s my take…

Our cities should be beaming with new expressions of Jesus in every corner. It’s apparent that not every well-known and established church is reaching their cities. If that were the case things would look much different. As the big C Church, can we not get behind each other and the new churches that are being planted and help to support and cultivate them? Can we not offer resources and support to help them reach our neighborhoods in a way that maybe other churches can’t?

The truth is we are all One Body, but we have different parts. Sure, there are separate communities of this vast Church body, but we are all on the journey to reach as many people with the love and life-changing message of Jesus as possible.

Romans 12:4-5 says, “ Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.“

It goes on to list the different types of gifts we have been given. What if? What if we realized there’s no need to feel competition, but there is a need to partner with new churches to help them succeed. What if we have multiple people with the same gifts and we can send others to share that gift with a new church community? How amazing would that be and how much quicker could making Jesus famous spread throughout our city?

There is no competition. We are One Body with many parts.
